Californians Against Hate News Update Contact: Fred Karger 619-592-2008 MARCH ON SD MANCHESTER GRAND HYATT SET FOR TODAY, FRIDAY, JULY 18th AT 1:00 PM
Hey All!
San Diego Pride, as well as Prides across the country are underway. I have become less and less enamored with allure Pride Parades and Festivals the older I get. The sense of community standing side by side with thousands of people who share the same political challenges I do continues to give way to the gaudy display of speedos, 12 pack abs, fake tans, glitter and corporate sponsorship and alienates those of us who believe the pride season is a time to reach out to the rest of America and invite them to see the very best we have to offer. Instead we are innundated with the, "weeny waggers," (as my mother puts it) vying for their camera time on the local news giving them one day of community validity in their otherwise mundane, non-contributing lives.
I know. I know. Harsh. Some would say I should lighten up. Some would say to get over myself, grab a frozen margarita and join the masses. Don't get me wrong. I absolutely love celebrating the LGBT community in all our trashiness at the appropriate times and the appropriate venues. And in terms of the bigger picture we could debate all day on the celebration aspect of prides and the need for sexual liberation in order to obtain political liberation. I've come to the point in my life, however, that if I can not truly be proud of my fellow queers and feel comfortable bringing my mother, my father, my family or someday my kids to an LGBT event...I can not attend.
With that said, I have to say that San Diego Pride is one of the few prides in the US that does an amazing job separating the adult themed with the family themed reaching out to our entire community on many varying levels. The LGBT community is as diverse as America and I have no problem with embracing each and every one of us. I think the hazard comes when we try to embrace every facet of our community all at the same time all in the same venue. Simulated f*cking on a glittery Altoids float isn't appropriate for anyone's kids...gay or straight.
So...after my little soap box here is your chance to show your political colors this SD Pride. Wish I had had this information earlier but here we go:
Californians Against Hate News Update Contact: Fred Karger 619-592-2008 MARCH ON SD MANCHESTER GRAND HYATT SET FOR TODAY, FRIDAY, JULY 18th AT 1:00 PM This is a reminder to you about our kickoff Demonstration and Rally Against Hate today in front of the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel www. marchonmanchester. com We will officially announce a boycott of Doug Manchesters San Diego Hotels.
www. boycottmanchesterhotels. com Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel One Market Place @ Harbor Drive San Diego 92101 Friday, July 18th, 1:00 pm Doug Manchester, CEO of the Manchester Financial Group of San Diego dougmanchester. com contributed $125,000 to qualify an Initiative Constitutional Amendment, Proposition 8 for the November 4th ballot which amends our constitution to define marriage as only between a man and a woman. This would negate the thousands of marriages taking place this summer and secure bigotry into our Constitution -- which was created to expand rights to Californians not restrict rights to targeted minorities.
--We feel that if Mr. Manchester and any other individuals give huge amounts of money to take away our freedom to marry, then the LGBT community, our families and our friends should fight back against these purveyors of hate--said Fred Karger, Campaign Manager of the newly formed Californians Against Hate.
