Hey All!

As some of you may know Halloween is probably one of my (if not my) favorite holiday ever. I don't know...there's something about the gaudy decorations and feint sound of "Monster Mash" playing away at the grocery store that takes me back to my childhood. A childhood of laying on the pattern board so my mom could outline the body that had been growing for a full year to then spend weeks on the amazing homemade costume that would top all the other kids costumes at school...and then there was the Trick or Treatin! Remember when it was safe for you and your friends to have that one night of freedom to sneak away from your parents in the dark. To run up and down the streets of your neighborhood to gorge our mouths and bags full of pure sugar energy...

...Times have changed a bit. Most Trick or Treatin' now happens before nightfall, bags have to be inspected before kids are allowed to dive in and homemade costumes have largely given in to store bought. I still think, however, the spirit and exhilaration of transforming yourself into someone new and someone eccentric for one special night still remains the same.

In these crazy times of indictments, CIA conspiracy leaks, civil right vetoes and an administration crumbling before our eyes, take tonight and just remember what it was like to put on that sheriffs badge or Indian head dress, grab your pillow case soon to be filled with candy and truly escape all your childhood dilemmas for one night to enjoy the Halloween spirit...

So tonight whether you're going out or staying in, put on some black eyeliner, that funky 'fro wig or that flapper costume and have fun. Gorge yourself on crap candy and forget about calories. November 1st comes all too quickly so hold on to that childhood spark for as long as you can!

Angelo and I hitting the town tonight as, yes, Napoleon Dynamite and Pedro

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!

FROM HRC:

Times have been tough for our opponents lately. Mostly due to a nominee to the Supreme Court with little known about her views on hot-button conservative issues and a President facing his lowest ratings in opinion polls since he started the job.

So how does conservative leadership respond? By bringing the Federal Marriage Amendment back to the limelight hoping to once again use GLBT equality as a way to divide the electorate and please their conservative base.

TOMORROW, Thursday, October 20th, Senator Brownback (R-KS) will preside over the second Senate subcommittee hearing this year to address marriage between same-sex couples. Today, we'd like you to send a strong message to your Senator who sits on the Senate Subcommittee on the Constitution and will be attending tomorrow's hearing.

Tell your Senator to vote NO on any legislation that will discriminate against same-sex couples and add discrimination to
our constitution. These hearings are a waste of time and money and they are a transparent ploy by conservative extremists to
distract the nation from the real issues at hand.

CLICK HERE TO TELL YOU SENATORS NO!

I hope that today you will speak up as a fair-minded American against discrimination. Your voice and your actions will be
critical to our long-term success to secure equality and justice for all Americans.

Thank you for continuing the fight against discrimination and for standing up for equality.

Sincerely,

Joe Solmonese
HRC President

HAPPY COMING OUT DAY!

Wherever you are in your coming out process: closeted yet self identifying, tattooed with pink triangles, or just telling your family and friends today...CONGRATS! You are wonderful and you are part of a driving community in this country that is making amazing headway in the way of civil rights and equality. Keep doing what your doing and speaking out.

For all of those who are out, whatever age, think back to those days just before you told your first person you were gay. The nervousness, the anxiety, the heavy heart. Think back to what society was like and what pressures you were facing as a gay person. By coming out each one of us are paving the way for new generations of the LGBT community to have an easier, more safe, more empowering transition than we had and that generations before us had.

Take a moment to call the loved ones in your life--your family, your friends or your pseudo family of friends :) and tell them thank you. Thank you for being a part of your life. Thank you for being there when you came out. Thank you for supporting you on whatever level they do. We are only half the equation of coming out--it's our families, friends and allies that bring the rest of the process to the table. Without them who would we come out to? ;)

Thank you to everyone who has been supportive in my life. Coming out is a lifelong process and I am just getting started...

HAPPY COMING OUT DAY!

Hey All,

Well, the veto was devestating news but as a movement when have we ever let one confused Austrian get in our way. We get knocked down we keep getting right back up. And we'll keep doing so until we are standing side by side with our heterosexual brothers and sisters. It is only a matter of time.

On the flip side, our Govern-ator did signed 4 landmark gay rights legislation into law the same week as taking away our right to families. The California Insurance Equality Act amends the Insurance and the Health & Safety Codes to keep insurance providers from discriminating against domestic partners. This new law requires insurance companies to offer coverage to registered domestic partners. (AB 2208, sponsored by Assemblywoman Christine Kehoe, D-San Diego)

Also, Arnold signed the Omnibus Hate Crimes Act which creates the definition of a hate crime that includes crimes against individuals based on their sexual orientation or gender identity. The new law also includes crimes against victims based on their association with people who are gay or transgender.

We are taking steps forward with our major step back. This is by NO means a reason to re-elect this idiot. Our education is a mess, unions are struggling not to mention nurses and firefighters. Who is next Arnold?

Veto protest in San Diego

I had a chance to run up to see my friends who produce Gay Days Disneyland. This event is fantastic. It's a lot less circuity than Gay Days Orlando and very family friendly. From the couples dinner to the children's scavenger hunt these guys do a great job of balancing a night life with pro-family fun. It was my third year and I had an absolute blast.

Myself, Chelsea and Im with the Step Sisters? ;)

Jeffrey (producer of Gay Days Disneyland), Bruce (The Advocate), Mama (Mama ;)), Billy (Filth 2 Go)

Remember...we're gay. There's always a happy ending. ;)

best,

-W
