HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!!!!

Thursday, October 30, 2003

Home sweet Home...Well almost. I am at my in between home here in San Diego - gearing up to head to West Hollywood for Halloween. First of all, Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. I dunno if it's all the free candy, the getting to dress up (oh lord maybe I'm really a drag queen at heart. ;)), the parties, the ghost stories...I dunno! Halloween in Los Angeles is crazy. They shut down Santa Monica Blvd. and everyone comes out. The crazies, the gays, the straights, families, tourists...on and on and on.

All right...So I finally made it to Boston. I arrived a 4:20 and had to meet everyone at 5 so I barely got any time to catch my breath after 6 hours of traveling. Blah! Can I just tell you all how much I love Boston. What a beautiful city! Just the architecture alone was amazing. Hanging out with Neil, Genesis and Genesis' girlfriend Beth was a lot of fun. Ruthie was 2 hours late - something about a late train or something. In the end all she really talked about was gossip about other Real Worlders - I am still not sure what message she was trying to get across.

I got to meet some of the east coast BMB fans and that was a lot of fun as well. I am really looking forward to coming back. Looks like I'll be headed back to Harvard in the next couple of months. I can't wait!

OK - now are you all ready for this. So some friends and I went out on Wed night and after the club closed we went to grab a bite to eat. So I'm sitting there and I hear, "Wes, oh my God....Wes??" I look up and there is a girl standing at our table who I have never seen in my life. She's gorgeous but I have no clue. She pulls me up and gives me a huge hug. She says, "I'm Franklin's sister!"

Haha WHAT ARE THE CHANCES!! I couldn't believe it. I mean seriously what are the chances that I would see Franklin's sister at a dive diner in the Theatre District of Boston at 3am. This world is FRIGHTENINGLY small. Crazy!

As for the fires - they have primarily contained the fires threatening the city. North County is getting the brunt now. My friend Kory's house was spared but seriously - by 10 feet or so. He is very lucky. The air is much clearer but still very hazardous to breathe - so I still see masks everywhere. I swear it's like something out of 28 days.

The OutList is going great! Keep sending in your info and pass it on to your friends as well!

I'm off to carve pumpkins!

Monday, October 27, 2003

Hey all - well I can't tell if the air is getting better or I'm just getting used to breathing ash. After venturing out to meet my friend, Kory, who was evacuated (who's machine is still picking up btw) I've been staying indoors most the day. Sitting here with burning eyes, scratchy throat and stuffed up nose and that's just sitting indoors - the air outside is horrible.

I'm sure a lot of you have seen photos of just what's going on here but I wanted to post some images so you can really get a grasp of SD is going through. Thanks for all your emails - our condo is in Hillcrest and is pretty much out of harms way. If it gets that close I'll be jumping in the Pacific.

This is about 10 miles from my house.

Scripps Ranch where my friend Kory was evacuated.

2pm - The skies above San Diego.

As far as I know Boston is still on. As long as the airports are open tomorrow (so far they are saying yes) we will be speaking at 7pm in the Student Center of Northeastern University. If you are in the Boston area swing by to say hello. From fire to ice and snow...I can't wait!
This is just insane. I am sitting here, yet once again, stranded in San Diego. I was supposed to be off to Boston at 7am this morning, but I'm sure as most of you know, San Diego is in a firestorm. The air is so thick and full of smoke it smells like a bonfire inside my condo. There is a think layer of ash just covering everything. It's so dark and eerie I can't even describe it.

I drove down from Los Angeles yesterday and it was just one major smoke bank the entire 2 hour drive. It was surreal. I am off to meet my friend who had to evacuate his place last night. The flames were within about 10 feet of his house - we keep calling his answering machine. We figure if it still answering the house is still standing. So far so good. I'll post more later today - lord knows I won't be flying out anytime today.

Hey! Hey! Well it's Friday night and I am going out on the town. Yup, a date. *GASP*

Anywho, I want to think everyone who listened to the program this morning. I was a little disappointed that we spent so much time on some of the questions I feel like I've addressed already but I had a lot of fun with Harrison. And for those of you who were a bit confused on how/why I disappeared (Yes, I've gotten the emails :P) I have a huge issue with the bareback porn industry and I wasn't about to sit there with that guy as a co-guest. I do my best not to "judge" but there are some things I just have to take a stance on. I would have shot my mouth off and I wasn't in the mood for a confrontation. I went down to the lobby for a coffee and came back when he was gone. I think there is too much overlapping with mainstream gay media and the porn industry and I didn't want to be a part of it. I think Harrison was on the right track calling this guy on his behavior but I just didn't want to have anything to do with it. The highlight though was getting to meet/talk with Judy Tanuta! Haha, I love that woman! It was funny, Harrison and I went and got breakfast after the show and I think our conversations there were actually more intriguing!

Well I'm off - Have a great weekend, and I will be announcing some more stuff / appearances on Monday!

XO,
-W

WOW...All I can say is Wow. What a weekend! I snuck down to San Diego (YES ONCE AGAIN! :)) to join The San Diego LGBT Community Center (my old place of work) for their 30th year Anniversary Gala. It was fantastic because a lot of the themes and aspects I helped plan pre-Boy Meets Boy were actualized. They even came through with my idea to have Chad Michaels (an amazing Cher impersonator) to do Cher of the 70s, 80s and 90s. He even had the Navy ship "Turn Back Time" thong costume - tattoos and all! Haha! I loved it! (Pictures to come soon :))
I was there mainly to assist with the advertising and selling of founders and memorial tiles where we raised over $90,000 Needless to say I was happy about that.

So I crashed around midnight and had to be up and back on the road at 5am to get to LA for AIDS Walk LA. For all of those I met and had a chance to talk to - thanks so much for coming out! It was crazy wasn't it!

I thought I was just going to be hosting a little breakfast with Bill Brochtrup but when I got there I was handed script notes. Script Notes!!?? Yup, I ended up speaking at the rally along side Erick McCormack, Hal Sparks, Nia Vardalos, Jeffrey Tambor and of course the amazing MC of the rally - Jaime Lee Curtis. I have to say all the celebs were so down to earth and genuine and all there for such an amazing cause. I was very impressed. To stand there and speak to something like 10,000 people is also crazy. I yelled to the crowd, "Make LA HEAR YOU!!!!!" And the response was overwhelming! I've been on the stage and in front of crowds of 50 - 5,000 since about age two but the amount of energy that pours out of crowd like that - wow.

I do have to give a HUGE thanks to Eddie Shapiro who invited me to join AIDS Walk LA this year. This is his event and he does an AMAZING job! I am in awe!

So now back to work. Just a reminder I will be on Harrison on the Edge this Friday at 8:19am. You can hear the live show at: http://www.sirius.com/servlet/ContentServerpagename=Sirius/Page&c=BackStageAsset&cid=1049499950827&stream=outq
If you have any direct questions you can call in at: 1-866-305-OUTQ (6887). But remember it is 8:19 am my time so be gentle. Haha!

All the best!

Allllll Righty Then... :)

Well it is official - I can talk about it. *Phew* Sorry I couldn't respond to your direct questions via email - contracts are a crazy thing. If you missed it, US Weekly reported today that James and I are no longer together.

So now that we can talk about it, unfortunately it is true. I really appreciate all your emails and rooting for James and I. But, SMILE! Don't be disappointed. We are still really great friends and both are very happy with the end result of the show. I will be talking more in depth about it on Harrison on the Edge, October 24th. (See home page for the link) We definitely had chemistry but a lot of things factor into post reality TV show dating.

So, I am single and available! Haha! Only one problem - I have almost no free time, so I guess that's a good thing. ;) But hey, if you're under 35 - in the LA area - have a steady job and an amazing sense of adventure drop me a line!

Haha, I am totally joking! Oh Lord, I'm gonna get slammed for that.

Goodnite.

Well here I am, with my dog Jack, sitting in the sweltering heat of LA. The great thing about 1920s remodeled apartments is that they are adorable - the bad thing is NO AC! :)

And I love it, only in LA. I've been here what, three weeks now and already I have had my street shut down twice for two different films and yesterday they shut down the block next to mine for a different feature. Like I said, only in LA! ;)

Had crazy weekend this weekend. I really hadn't gone out in a few weeks here in LA so it was fun going out. Went out with some friends and met up with Marcellas from Big Brother and finally met Norm from Real World 1 - New York. He is an awesome guy - almost as crazy as I am. Haha! He was killing me last night!

We've locked down Harrison on the Edge for October 24th. It should be a lot of fun. I put a link where you can hear the show via the net on my homepage. I go on at 8:19am PST and then I'll be staying on the rest of the show with Harrison.

All right boys and girls - I'm off to bed.

*afterthought* One thing I am working on is an International OutList. If you want to be part of this list, to be published here and possible a few other places, drop me a line with you Name, Location, Date of Birth and the Date you Came Out.

Tell your friends...hell tell your friends' friends. :)

Friday, October 10, 2003

Hey all - cars out of the shop and back to LA I go. I can't wait to hit the roads with the rain. Haha, there's something about California drivers...when it rains the ability to drive ceases immediately. :)

We are still waiting to hear on the Steve Pride show tomorrow am. I will post the station and times as soon as I get the go ahead from NBC.

Next - San Francisco and Tampa. I will be at the Macy's / Vox Vodka party in San Fran on October 30th and spending Halloween in the Castro. I can't wait! (Any ideas on costumes? :) )

Also just confirmed Brian, Robb, Dan and I will be attending a fundraiser on the 20th of Nov. where you can buy dates with the boys from Boy Meets Boy. Haha - should be very interesting! We will be in Tampa the 19th - 23rd and making a cameo appearance in a film on the 23rd.

More college dates in the works!

All the best!

Holy Crap! :) Hey everyone just a note to say thanks for all the hits! We broke 10,000! That's over 10,000 hits in three weeks.

Thanks so much for keeping up and for all the e-mails. We just scheduled two more appearances that I will fill you in on Friday - Tampa and San Francisco...

Alos, looks like James and I will be speaking with Steve Pride on his radio show this Saturday as well. I will give you the heads up when we confirm. It's a strange thing when you have to get permission from NBC to get together. Haha! :)

All right gang, I'm out. Take Care...

Monday, October 06, 2003

Hey! Hey! Hey! Whatsup everyone! Gay Days was so much fun. We started the weekend with Wonderland on Friday night with a really good turn out. It was a really nice mix of the gay community. One of the few parties where I've seen both gay and lesbian, young and older, clothed and shirtless all dancing side by side. Circuit events can get a little homogeneous...same music - same party - same people over and over and over. Wonderland was a kicka** change.

Robb came up and we spent the next day with friends and tore through Disney. It was great seeing all the red shirts. I would say at least 40% of the boys and girls were sporting red. Great visibility. For those Midwesterners who just happen to be at Disney on Gay Days and just happen to be wearing red...haha sorry. :) But thanks for supporting the cause! :)

The best quote of the weekend goes to a mother of three to my friend Joshua out on Rivers of America. While canoeing towards Mark Twain Island my friend Josh says, "Hey look a beaver!" and this fabulous mother of three looks at Josh and says, "You wouldn't know a thing about beavers!" Haha! 10 points for sass for the mother from Milwaukee!

One of the highlights of my weekend was meeting with Christopher from the Matthew Shepard Foundation. As most of you know this is the five year anniversary of Matthew's attack and death. I can not believe it was five years ago. We had a great heart to heart and the foundation is doing some amazing things. 2004 is going to be a wonderful year for outreach and growth for Judy and everyone involved with the foundation. I really look forward to being a part of some upcoming programs that I will be filling you all in on.

So that's the rundown. I'll be down in SD most of this week (I swear I'm in SD more now then before I moved!) and back to LA this weekend. It was great meeting those I got a chance to this weekend and remember I want pictures! :)

Have a great week!

Hey All! Off to the Gayes....ahem excuse me, Happiest place on earth. I'll be the one wearing red. :)

Full update on Monday!

Well the AIDS Walk kick off celebration was a huge success! NYPD Blue's Billy Brochtrup was a riot and I got to do a little standup improv comedy myself.

I am always blown away at how many wonderful people are involved in non-profit and how much work really goes into something like AIDS Walk LA. There were speakers there on behalf of the city of Los Angeles, The Mayor of West Hollywood and a really moving speech by a client of APLA who is HIV positive and has been able to survive due to the help programs like these give to the community.

It really is amazing how much you are empowered just from giving back to the community and seeing hands on how your hard work and time affects people. You know what would be amazing is to see all of you reading this take a breather from your hectic daily schedule and try to give some time to organizations like AIDS Walk, or LGBT Centers or any non-profit agencies in your towns.

In fact here's a challenge! :) Let's see you all try to give at least one hour a month to a cause you believe in. I know, I know how busy things get (haha trust me I know!) but whether it is just a letter of support or some in person time for a cause, drop me a line and I will post them on the site! Of course donations always help non-profit, but that's not a plug. ;) (Haha! Flashback to my fund raising days)

For upcoming events, I just confirmed hosting the kick off breakfast for AIDS Walk LA, October 19th and confirmed I will be joining speakers this year, Jamie Lee Curtis and Eric McCormack. I can NOT wait! I have always been a huge fan of Jamie Lee Curtis from her scream teen days! It should be a lot of fun. So if you haven't signed up for AIDS Walk yet...you have three weeks! :)

Now on to the parties... (Haha! It's a fine balance between responsibility and letting loose!) Gay Days is this weekend so get your red shirts and your Mickey Mouse ears and meet us for the opening - Wonderland on Friday, the park on Saturday or The Kingdom party on Saturday night...Hell meet us at all three! It's going to be a crazy! 20,000 gay boys and girls in red...watch out Dr. Laura! :)

Chicago, Tampa, Miami and New York are all on horizon... I'll let you know when I get any new info!
